It is possible to select phrases via MIDI program change (with trigger mode set to "program") but apparently you cannot edit the phrases while the replay is running since the currently playing phrase is automatically selected in the editor UI when a program change is received (=> impossible to edit when the phrase constantly changes). The phrase patterns can be played polyphonically although I'm wondering if there is any way to select the start line via MIDI CC (or even modulate pattern column data!) ? On the plus side, Redux supports round-robin (cycle/random) note+velocity keyzones, mute groups, stereo samples, per-keyzone FX and modulation chains (LFOs/envelopes/keytracking etc), the A/B FX mini-presets are very useful (modulation devices should have them, too!), the envelopes/LFOs are snappy (200Hz update rate with intra-frame volume/pitch interpolation, if I'm not mistaken), and yeah, Redux includes a ton of stackable modulation and FX devices. The number one thing that is currently puzzling me is how you are supposed to mute/solo samples ? Apparently this is currently not possible but I think it is a crucial feature, especially for complex drum maps (assigning all samples except the solo'ed one to a "mute" FX chain is a very cumbersome workaround!). I took some notes (suggestions, questions) that I might post in the Renoise forum once I've become more acquainted with Redux. The MIDI control seems to be a perfect match for Reason's new VST device (basically like a "super-combinator" with 8 programmable knobs that can be mapped to the 8 macro controls in Redux). Its audio engine is very optimized and the CPU load barely hit 1% in my tests (even with multi-layered, polyphonic patches that had convolution reverbs in their FX chains). I have downloaded and tested the Redux demo (in Reaper, which I occasionally use for testing VSTs).įirst of all, I think Redux is a very powerful sampler and if it's working in Reason it will be a no-brainer. merry christmasxmas is still a few weeks away, R9.5 is not going to be released until May, 29th Reason is going to get VST compatibility.
